Starcraft 2: Zerg Compare SC1 - SC2
Modeled by Phill Gonzales, final texture pass by Ted Park
Animated by Jay Hathaway

This was just for fun! The graphical improvements between games are marginal. The updated visuals are based on the great concept work of Mr.--Jack: [link]

You know, I always admired the low-res "pixel-art" of the original SC. It really let my imagination do the drawing, and so I thought of it as being more realistic than it really was at the time. Probably a reason why pixel art is popular these days, especially in indie games.

I miss the Guardian, it is my favorite flying zerg unit

Oh man, I was way off on those original units. I thought the giant color streaks on the Devourer were eyes at first, then I thought they were antenna. As for the Queen...I just don't know. First time I ever made one my first thought was, "What?" I eventually settled on the thought they were the result of a plastic bag and a spider fused together.

Heehee, this happens to me too, the sprites are easy to interpret differently!

It's a real shame the Devourer didn't make it into the final game - I mean, sure, I never made much use of them myself, but artistically what you have here is not only brilliant in and of itself, but conceptually, as a "next gen" Mutalisk, it is absolutely perfect.

I agree, there is a missed opportunity here, BUT, we still have an expansion left and who knows what could happen.

Oh wow! I mean, the devourer weren't looking like anything solid in BroodWar...
